When I started out kin golf I really did not think about what I needed in the realm of apparel. I was conscious that I would be a beginner for quite some time but naturally, did not want to look like one. From afar the clothing for golf looks quite simple to emulate, a simple polo shirt and a nice pair of shorts or casual chinos/khakis. It is not hard to see that wearing jeans on the course is like carrying a map and your class schedule around a college campus, a complete newb indicator. There was surely a right and wrong way to look.

Original Clothing For Golf
For the casual and absolute beginner in golf I would recommend a polo type shirt with very little or no graphics. I have yet to see anyone on the course looking to cage fight so the graphics heavy shiny silver and gold shirts with wings and crap are not a fit. I have found some unbelievable deals at Costco and Golfsmith. For shorts, I have had great luck with straight leg type shorts from Costco or Target. I learned after a couple of rounds to keep away from the cargo type shorts. The flappy type pockets actually can catch your hand or golf club on the backswing and get really heavy (believe it or not) when you do venture to an 18 hole golf course. In addition, the oversized pockets make finding your tees, markers, and repair tool difficult to find and you kind of look a bit silly digging around your own shorts when you’re up to the tee. I will go into what I have learned to carry in a later post. For the long pants lover, a standard pair of Dockers work really well. They even have a Golf line of pants available but be warned, they are pretty expensive.
Now, there is plenty more to discuss here in the way of apparel but this is the absolute basics. I will tell you that in the year I have been playing and looking at clothes, golf can be one of the most basic to some of the most technologically advanced clothing I have ever seen. It’s up to you to find you balance of spend vs necessity.
